Jason started building props for puppets in Miami for the pilot season of the children’s program Jellybean Jungle. This led to working as a freelance properties artisan in the international commercial market of southeast Florida, followed by six years as a master carpenter at the Caldwell Theatre in Boca Raton, Florida, before pursuing his M.F.A. at Penn State. While a graduate student, Jason served as the Props Master for the Pennsylvania Centre Stage productions of The Mystery of Irma Vepp and Pump Boys and Dinettes.
After graduate school, Jason served as the Technical Director at Michigan State University and the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. While at USF, Jason had the opportunity to work with many visiting artists, including playwright James Phillips, director Malachi Bogdanov, and designers Bruce French and Michael Holt, while participating in the British International Theatre program. In 2008, he was awarded a KC/ACTF southeast region Technical Achievement Award for the TheatreUSF production of Metamorphoses.
He returns to PSU as the Properties Supervisor and is a member of Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA), serving on the Stage Lift Working Group, and United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), serving on the National Conference Committee since 2008. Jason is currently exploring the use of 3D scanning and printing for use in production and the classroom.
