Theatre Studies Admission Requirements

AFTER AUGUST 1, 2018:

1. Apply for admission online at http://admissions.psu.edu.

STUDENTS SHOULD APPLY TO THE THEATRE B.A. DEGREE

TO RECEIVE MAXIMUM CONSIDERATION FOR ALL FORMS OF FINANCIAL AID, STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE THEIR ACADEMIC AND THEATRE APPLICATIONS BY NOVEMBER 30.
 

2. Upload the required materials: 

- A one-page resume 

- A statement of interest: In two or three thoughtful paragraphs, tell us what interests you about pursuing a theatre studies degree; include an overview of your experience with (and/or desire to know more about)  scholarship, dramaturgy, directing, playwriting, dramatic literature, devising, design, performance, or any combination of these. 

- A headshot or photo (optional) 

3. Arrange to meet with the theatre studies faculty in one of two ways: 

  • Visit campus on a prospective students day: November 3, December 1, December 8, January 26, February 2, or February 23 

OR 

  • Arrange to interview with the Theatre Studies Committee over Skype. You can request this option by sending an email to the Theatre Studies Faculty at theatreistheory@psu.edu. 


4. Make a presentation, either in person or via Skype. 

This 10-minute presentation should communicate your experience with and curiosity for theatre and performance. This can include any combination of: 

  • - two one-minute contrasting monologues 

  • - a portfolio of writing samples like dramatic criticism, performance reviews, plays, etc. 

  • - a portfolio of your theatre design work or other art work 

  • - a dramaturgy packet or study guide for a stage play or musical
