Penn State Study Abroad Programs of note for Theatre Majors

IES is a study abroad consortium that offers multiple “tracks” in London and in Dublin which may appeal to theatre majors.

 

IES London, Study London Program

The general studies program at IES London offers a selection of theatre appreciation and drama lit courses along with a variety of humanities and social sciences courses at the IES Center.

IES London, Theater Studies Program

The curriculum of the Theater Studies Program at IES London is limited to theatre courses.  All students take Theatre in London: Analyzing Text and Performance, and The Theatre Industry: Inside and Out.  Electives include a performance workshop, a playwriting workshop, Shakespeare the Dramatists, and an internship.

IES Dublin, Irish General Studies Program

The General Studies Program at IES Dublin offers a variety of humanities and social science courses including some theatre courses.  It also offers the possibility of a theatre related internship.

IES Dublin: Theatre Performance Program

Participants in the Theatre Performance Program take one course, Contemporary Irish Drama, at the IES Center and four courses at the Gaiety School of Acting.

The University of Kent, Canterbury, England

The University of Kent is one of Penn State’s many student exchange partners.  Exchange students select from available courses and attend classes with the local students.

Summer Programs

London Summer Internship Program, Arcadia University

Participants accrue practical experience and earn six college credits through a combination of internship and academic research.   Arcadia University’s London staff makes an effort to arrange an internship appropriate to the interests of the applicant.   Prerequisites: Completion of the sophomore year and at least two courses in the major.

IES Summer Internship Program, London or Dublin

Dublin Modern Dance

Dublin Modern Dance is a five-week, faculty-led, summer program scheduled to coincide with the annual Dublin Dance Festival, one of the most prestigious international dance festivals in the world.   The program consists of a combination of performance classes and dance appreciation courses with the Penn State instructor and through participation in the festival.  All participants must have some previous dance training at the intermediate level or above.
